Cold Brew – What exactly is it?

Cold Brew is quite the buzz word these days.¬† You’ve probably tried it.¬† And if you have, you probably love it.¬† But what exactly is it?¬† And¬† how is it made?¬† Here’s everything you need to know about Cold Brew!

!cold brew

It’s Brewed in Cold Water

Hence the name.  Cold brew coffee is actually steeped in room temperature or chilled water and never touches hot water.  This causes a much slower flavor extraction which contributes to the smooth flavor of cold brew coffee.

It Takes at Least 12 Hours to Make

Cold brew coffee is made by steeping coarse ground coffee in large paper coffee filters in water for 12-18 hours and then diluted to taste with water.  We make fresh batches over night so they are ready to be served each morning!

It’s HandCrafted

You won’t find our cold brew in a can.¬† It’s handcrafted by our own baristas to ensure it’s fresh!¬† That’s why there is limited availability based on what we make each day.¬† Come get it while it’s hot!¬† Errr….cold, we mean.

It’s not the same as Iced Coffee

Iced coffee is essentially normally brewed coffee that is chilled and then poured over ice.  It still has the same flavor as hot coffee and might taste more acidic or even bitter compared to cold brew coffee.

Cold Brew can be Customized

You can add flavored syrups or chocolate or caramel to cold brew.¬† It’s rich smooth flavor tastes great with vanilla, coconut or hazelnut flavors.¬† You can also add dairy or dairy alternatives if you prefer!

So now that you know what it is, then you have no reason not to try it!¬†¬† You’ll be pleasantly surprised.¬† Stop by one of our many locations today!¬† We think you’ll have a new favorite craving!

Guest Barista Days

The Human Bean of Northern Colorado¬†hosts many “Guest Barista Days”.¬† These are where members of the community join the baristas in the stands.¬† This way they can¬†interact directly with customers¬†and also¬†promote their cause. In addition to encouraging customer donations, The Human Bean of Northern Colorado gives 10% of their daily sales to the guest barista. They hosted one of their very own managers¬†as a Guest Barista in support of her recent trip to an orphanage in Haiti on Thursday, June 23, at their¬†location in Evans, Colorado.

Read more about her eye-opening experience here: My Trip to Haiti…

The Human Bean of Northern Colorado also encouraged customers to donate basic medical supplies.  They would send to the orphanage in Haiti where their manager visited. A HUGE thank you to everyone who donated! Because of you, The Human Bean of Northern Colorado was able to provide a large donation of medial supplies to support children in Haiti.

Celebrating Earth Day with Reusable Bag Giveaway

Reusable Bag Giveaway Friday, April 22nd marks Earth Day 2016.

reusable bag giveaway

Our reusable bag giveaway is in celebration of Earth Day!  We are giving Human Bean customers complimentary reusable shopping bags with our Human Bean logo on them.  They will receive one with their drink purchase that day while supplies last. Check with your favorite Human Bean location for participation.

From shopping to groceries, you’ll love finding new ways to reuse your bag! And you’ll feel good using an eco-friendly bag vs disposable, single-use, plastic ones!¬† Reusable bags are a simple way to be kinder to our earth.¬† They can cause harm to¬†marine animals and clog up our landfills since they decompose so slowly.¬†

Over the years, The Human Bean has provided customers with over 80,000 bags during our reusable bag giveaway on Earth Day. Just think of the thousands of plastic bags we saved by making this small change!

Because supplies are limited, reusable shopping bags will be given on a first come, first serve basis on Earth Day (limit 2 bags per vehicle). Most Human Bean locations are participating, but check-in with your favorite stand before Earth Day to be sure.

Visit our Facebook Earth Day Event Page for more info & updates and join the event for a notification reminder the morning of Earth Day.

The Human Bean tries to extend their earth friendly practices globally as well through their Farm Friendly Direct program, which is their direct-trade coffee sourcing program. They work directly with the farmers that grow their coffee and pay them at or above market prices. They also allocate additional funds for community projects such as: building water systems, school and community centers and facilitating earth friendly soil, water and farming practices.

See you at The Human Bean for delicious drinks & reusable bags on Earth Day! (4/22)

Human Bean Remodel for Original Ashland Location

THE HUMAN BEAN REMODEL IN ASHLAND, OR IS AN INVESTMENT TO BETTER SERVE CUSTOMERS

The Human Bean team is hard at work renovating drive-thru locations in Jackson County.  They hope to improve operations, visual curb appeal and also better serve coffee lovers in the Rogue Valley!

The first location to receive a complete Human Bean remodel is the original coffee stand that started it all back in 1998 in Ashland, Oregon. The Human Bean of Ashland paved the way for The Human Bean brand.  Most importantly it established the products, operations and customer service we all know and love today.

To see how we construct a new Human Bean remodel, view our video.

The new Ashland Human Bean remodel location was constructed with a prefab structure built in a nearby city and then moved by truck to the location.  It features a stone covered foundation, warm coffee & mocha colors and light fixtures decorated with The Human Bean’s steaming coffee cup icon. Next time you’re in the Ashland area, make sure to check-out the beautiful new building off Highway 99!

New Human Bean Eugene Location

The Human Bean Eugene will be opening soon!

The first Human Bean location¬†opened¬†in Ashland, Oregon in 1998.¬† But it didn’t take long for the¬†brand to build¬†a reputation for excellent coffee & customer service. The Human Bean soon expanded to surrounding cities and¬†across¬†Oregon.¬† This was done¬†through corporate development and approved franchises. Today, The Human Bean has grown to¬†60 locations in 9 states.¬† The¬†majority are¬†still operating in its home state of Oregon. We are also excited to bring The Human Bean to another¬†city in Oregon this month; Eugene, we know you’re ready for us!

About Eugene, Oregon

Eugene is Oregon‚Äôs second largest city following Portland with over 160,000 residents. It¬†is home to the University of Oregon (Go Ducks!).¬† It also¬†earned the title of, ‚ÄúTrackTown USA‚ÄĚ, after being the birthplace of athletic mega-brand Nike and hosting multiple Olympic trials.

Bringing The Human Bean to “TrackTown USA” is Eugene native, Lauren Karcher. ‚ÄúI have a love affair with this city,‚ÄĚ says Karcher.¬†¬†“We feel so fortunate to open the very first Human Bean here”. The culture of The Human Bean brand is ‚Äúkind, genuine and fun.‚Ä̬†The Human Bean also¬†strives to give back locally¬†through fundraisers and sponsorships. The Human Bean will be a natural fit for the community-minded city of Eugene.

Along with the brand, Eugene residents can expect many benefits from The Human Bean’s drive-thru design. The Human Bean features a double-sided drive thru.¬† This¬†fosters¬†both convenience and customer service.¬†‚ÄúThe drive-thru lets¬†our customers stay inside their warm cars, get their favorite drinks quickly, and still gives us time to connect with them!‚Ä̬†says Karcher.

Karcher chose to¬†build The Human Bean Eugene franchise¬†after visiting many locations around Oregon. “While I am very much hooked on the drinks, the culture and the people of Human Bean is really why I fell in love,‚ÄĚ says Karcher.

Karcher‚Äôs goal for The Human Bean is to expand the brand everywhere she can.¬† She also wants to focus on the Eugene area. ‚ÄúOnce we find the sites, I will do everything I can to make it happen,‚ÄĚ says Karcher.

“I am blessed to help start and end people’s day with a positive vibe & delicious drink.”
-Lauren Karcher

The Human Bean corporate team¬†is elated to welcome Karcher and the Human Bean Eugene¬†to our franchise family.¬† We can’t wait to see the successes to come from the new Human Bean¬†Eugene location. For updates about this stand & grand opening dates, LIKE¬†The Human Bean Eugene Facebook Page. For more information about franchising, visit The Human Bean official¬†website¬†here.

Opening Soon, The Human Bean Missouri

The Human Bean Missouri will be opening soon and will also be the first in the state!

About the Human Bean

With a passion¬†for creating happy people and our love of coffee, we opened our first drive-thru espresso stand in Ashland Oregon in 1998. The demand for The Human Bean’s convenient, consistent and customer focused¬†brand¬†grew and soon after opening in¬†Ashland, we expanded to surrounding cities in Oregon and steadily grew to¬†nearby¬†states.

This season, we are excited to announce that we are bringing The Human Bean to state number 9 with the opening of our 58th location in St. Joseph, Missouri!

Missouri

Located along the Missouri River and about 60 miles north of Kansas City, St. Joseph is rich with history.  It is also home to almost 80,000 residents. Among those residing in St. Joseph is HB franchisee, Erin Albright-Milek.

About Erin Albright-Milek, Owner

Albright-Milek discovered The Human Bean while vacationing in Albany, OR. She fell in love with the¬†brand.¬† She was also¬†impressed by the qualified¬†baristas that took her order. Once she tasted¬†her Snowy Mocha with¬†The Human Bean’s signature chocolate covered espresso bean on top, she was hooked!

After visiting additional¬†locations and learning more about the¬†brand, Albright-Milek discovered¬†The Human Bean Franchise offered something special.¬†The fun atmosphere and positive spirit demonstrated by the baristas was contagious.¬†¬†“We¬†want to¬†offer the¬†same great experience in our area,”¬†said¬†Albright-Milek.

In addition, The Human Bean’s focus on community involvement excited and inspired¬†Albright-Milek. Since 2002, The Human Bean’s largest annual fundraiser, Coffee for A Cure, has raised over $850,000 for local breast health centers. Along with her interest in participating in Coffee for A Cure, “we’d also¬†like to show support for other organizations in our immediate area as well,” said¬†Albright-Milek.

Albright-Milek and her team are working hard to open their first stand on 4414 Commons Drive in St. Joseph by early March. Once they become great at what they do and establish The Human Bean within the St. Joseph community, they also plan to eventually expand the brand to the Kansas City area.

The Human Bean expects to continue this growth through approved franchisees that share the same determination and commitment to our goals for this exceptional brand. If you are interested in learning more about The Human Bean franchise opportunities in areas that remain available for development, please refer to the Franchise page.

Three words to describe this light roast are refined, fragrant and also buttery.  This full bodied variety begins and ends with sweet undertones of honey, herbal tea and chocolate. These coffee beans from El Salvador have a well-balanced finish that marks this light roast as a perfect complement to every fall morning.
