New Building for Original Ashland Location

new ashland

THE HUMAN BEAN IS INVESTING IN NEW STANDS TO BETTER SERVE CUSTOMERS

The Human Bean team is hard at work renovating drive-thru locations in Jackson County to improve operations, visual curb appeal and better serve coffee lovers in the Rogue Valley!

The first location to receive a complete remodel is the original Human Bean that started it all back in 1998 in Ashland, Oregon. The Human Bean of Ashland paved the way for The Human Bean brand and established the products, operations and customer service we all know and love today.

The new Ashland location features a stone covered foundation, warm coffee & mocha colors and light fixtures decorated with The Human Bean’s steaming coffee cup icon. Next time you’re in the Ashland area, make sure to check-out the beautiful new building off Highway 99!

Let us know what you think of the changes on our Jackson County Facebook page. We’d love your feedback! Also, stay-tuned for the next complete remodel- The Human Bean off Biddle Rd. by Dairy Queen in Medford is next!

Bringing The Bean to Eugene

The Human Bean opened location¬†#1 in Ashland, Oregon in 1998 but it didn’t take long for the¬†brand to build¬†a reputation for excellent coffee & customer service. The Human Bean soon expanded to surrounding cities and¬†across¬†Oregon through corporate development and approved franchises. Today, The Human Bean has grown to¬†60 locations in 9 states with a¬†majority still operating in its home state of Oregon. We are excited to bring The Human Bean to another¬†city in Oregon this month; Eugene, we know you’re ready for us!

Eugene is Oregon‚Äôs second largest city following Portland with over 160,000 residents. It¬†is home to the University of Oregon (Go Ducks!) and has earned the title of, ‚ÄúTrackTown USA‚ÄĚ, after being the birthplace of athletic mega-brand Nike and hosting multiple Olympic trials.

Bringing The Human Bean to “TrackTown USA” is Eugene native, Lauren Karcher. ‚ÄúI have a love affair with this city,‚ÄĚ says Karcher, and “we feel so fortunate to open the very first Human Bean here”. The culture of The Human Bean brand is ‚Äúkind, genuine and fun‚ÄĚ and it¬†strives to give back locally¬†through fundraisers and sponsorships. The Human Bean will be a natural fit for the community-minded city of Eugene.

Along with the brand, Eugene residents can expect many benefits from The Human Bean’s drive-thru design. The Human Bean features a double-sided drive thru that fosters¬†both convenience and customer service.¬†‚ÄúThe drive-thru lets¬†our customers stay inside their warm cars, get their favorite drinks quickly, and still gives us time to connect with them!‚Ä̬†says Karcher.

Karcher chose to franchise with The Human Bean after visiting many locations around Oregon. “While I am very much hooked on the drinks, the culture and the people of Human Bean is really why I fell in love,‚ÄĚ says Karcher.

Karcher‚Äôs goal for The Human Bean is to expand the brand everywhere she can, focusing on the Eugene area. ‚ÄúOnce we find the sites, I will do everything I can to make it happen,‚ÄĚ says Karcher.

“I am blessed to help start and end people’s day with a positive vibe & delicious drink.”
-Lauren Karcher

The Human Bean corporate team¬†is elated to welcome Karcher to our franchise family and can’t wait to see the successes to come from the new Eugene location. Opening Soon in Missouri!

With a passion¬†for creating happy people and our love of coffee, we opened our first drive-thru espresso stand in Ashland Oregon in 1998. The demand for The Human Bean’s convenient, consistent and customer focused¬†brand¬†grew and soon after opening in¬†Ashland, we expanded to surrounding cities in Oregon and steadily grew to¬†nearby¬†states.

This season, we are excited to announce that we are bringing The Human Bean to state number 9 with the opening of our 58th location in St. Joseph, Missouri!

Missouri

Located along the Missouri River and about 60 miles north of Kansas City, St. Joseph is rich with history and home to almost 80,000 residents. Among those residing in St. Joseph is HB franchisee, Erin Albright-Milek.

Albright-Milek discovered The Human Bean while vacationing in Albany, OR. She fell in love with the¬†brand and was impressed by the qualified¬†baristas that took her order. Once she tasted¬†her Snowy Mocha and The Human Bean’s signature chocolate covered espresso bean on top, she was hooked!

After visiting additional¬†locations and learning more about the¬†brand, Albright-Milek discovered¬†The Human Bean Franchise offered something special.¬†The fun atmosphere and positive spirit demonstrated by the baristas was contagious and “we¬†want to¬†offer the¬†same great experience in our area,”¬†said¬†Albright-Milek.

In addition, The Human Bean’s focus on community involvement excited and inspired¬†Albright-Milek. Since 2002, The Human Bean’s largest annual fundraiser, Coffee for A Cure, has raised over $850,000 for local breast health centers. Along with her interest in participating in Coffee for A Cure, “we’d like to show support for other organizations in our immediate area as well,” said¬†Albright-Milek.

Albright-Milek and her team are working hard to open their first stand on 4414 Commons Drive in St. Joseph by early March. Once they become great at what they do and establish The Human Bean within the St. Joseph community, they plan to eventually expand the brand to the Kansas City area.

The Human Bean expects to continue this growth through approved franchisees that share the same determination and commitment to our goals for this exceptional brand. If you are interested in learning more about The Human Bean franchise opportunities in areas that remain available for development, please refer to the Franchise page.

Team Sponsorship for Local Bike Race

The Human Bean is a proud supporter¬†of the communities we serve. Through fundraisers, donation days and sponsorships, we’ve raised and donated thousands of dollars for countless organizations over the years. ¬†For example, our biggest annual fundraiser, Coffee for A Cure, has raised¬†over $850,000 for community¬†breast health centers since 2002. Learn¬†more about Coffee for A Cure here.

FLyer

In addition to large-scale fundraisers like Coffee for A Cure, The Human Bean also values supporting smaller¬†local events too, like the “Brewhaus Cross”. The Human Bean supported this event by sponsoring a¬†¬†race team from Southern Oregon’s¬†Marty‚Äôs Cycle Bicycle Shop. The Brewhaus Cross is an exciting 4 day bike race held each September that benefits local Search & Rescue.

The bike races were held over the summer on Thursday the 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th of September at the Bigham Knoll Campus in Jacksonville, Oregon. During and after¬†the race, bikers and supporters enjoyed yummy Brats and beer from Jacksonville’s Schoolhaus Brewhaus Restaurant.¬†Since 2004, this fun local¬†event has raised over $200,000 in cash and equipment for¬†Josephine County Search and Rescue. The Human Bean is proud to support¬†Marty‚Äôs Cycle Bike Shop’s race team in such an awesome community event!

3 Tips to A Guilt-Free Drink

Happy 2016 fellow coffee lovers! Searching¬†for a beverage¬†you can feel good about drinking? Well we’re happy to say, Your Search is Over¬†at The Human Bean.

Whether you are counting calories or simply trying to live a healthier lifestyle in 2016, this post will expand your coffee knowledge and give you the power when ordering your favorite drinks at The Human Bean. We offer almost limitless options on our menu. From dairy-free alternatives to protein powder, we are always striving to provide the highest quality ingredients for our customers. While all these choices¬†are great, they can be a bit overwhelming. That’s why we created this post to guide you when ordering your next drink at The Human Bean.

Here are THREE simple tips to turning your favorite drink into one that satisfies your coffee cravings without the guilt!

1.)    Add a Scoop of Protein Powder!

You asked and we delivered! We now offer a vanilla protein powder at most of our locations. You can enjoy this new product as a Granita (w/ espresso) or as a Smoothie (w/out espresso). You can also add a scoop of protein to any of your current favorite blended drinks! With 20 grams of protein per scoop and an optimal amino acid profile, our protein powder drinks will keep you full and focused all day!

Barista Tip: Add a half scoop of protein to your favorite fruit smoothie flavor for the perfect afternoon snack!

2.)    Fat-free or dairy-free anyone?

Substituting your favorite drink with a fat-free dairy or dairy-free alternative can cut you’re your calories in HALF! Swapping chocolate milk for non-fat milk in your mocha will reduce the calories and eliminate the fat, while still satisfying your coffee and chocolate craving.

Dairy-free alternatives can also be a great option for creating a health conscious coffee beverage. At The Human Bean, we offer soy, almond and coconut milk at most of our locations. These dairy-free alternatives are low in fat and calories, contain no cholesterol and have up to 50% more calcium than dairy milk. Try soy, almond or coconut milk in your next coffee!

3.)   Add a shot? Why not!

If you enjoy a strong coffee flavor,¬†this is the trick for you! Espresso contains 0 calories¬†and¬†can cut anywhere from 15 to 50 calories from your drink. This trick works because the extra espresso replaces the higher calorie dairy or dairy substitute products. On your next drink, simply ask for an extra shot and you’ve got yourself a coffee with fewer calories and more of your favorite coffee flavor.

If too much caffeine is a concern of yours, ask your barista for an extra decaf shot of espresso.

You now hold three simple tips and tricks to creating a delicious, yet healthier coffee option. Don’t be afraid to experiment with your new coffee knowledge. Remember, you can have your coffee and drink it guilt-free at The Human Bean.

Hot Chocolate & Holiday Lights

merry & bright

Nothing says happy holidays more than delicious hot chocolate, sparkling Christmas lights and supporting the community! This season The Human Bean celebrated all these things and more on Dec. 22nd at Greystone Court during the Access Inc. Hot Chocolate Sponsorship.

Greystone Court is located in Medford, Oregon and every winter the entire neighborhood brightly shines. Each house on the block is gorgeously decorated with countless holiday lights.

hot choc

More than 5,000 cars drive through Greystone Court annually to catch a glimpse of these lights. Access Inc. has made this event one of their greatest annual food drives by encouraging members of the community to bring canned food and cash donations. In support of Access Inc. and to spread holiday cheer, The Human Bean added to the event for the third year in a row by providing free hot chocolate to those attending.

The Human Bean served 20 gallons and over 450 cups of complimentary hot chocolate that evening. Faces of children from ages 1-92 gleamed as they enjoyed the beautiful lights while sipping on warm hot chocolate. Needless to say, we’ll definitely be back next year.

Happy Holidays from one Human Bean to Another!
