The Human Bean Drive Thru Ranked #157 for 2017

157-blog-picThe Human Bean is proud to announce that we were ranked #157 in the “2017 Franchise 500” by Entrepreneur! Entrepreneur’s 38th Annual Franchise 500 is described as the world’s best and most comprehensive franchise ranking and states that those franchises honored are recognized for their exceptional performance in areas such as unit growth, financial strength, stability and brand power! We jumped 341 spots up on this list since 2013 which says a lot about the growth and future of our company and we are honored .

The Human Bean was founded 18 years ago in 1998 and the first location was opened in Ashland, Oregon. Our commitment to developing the best drive-thru espresso led us to franchising The Human Bean’s brand and system in 2002. We are proud to announce that The Human Bean has expanded to 65 locations in nine states, 52 of those being franchised locations and 13 being corporate locations. We expect to continue this growth through approved franchisees that share the same determination and commitment to our goals for this exceptional brand.

We are expecting to open 20 new drive thru coffee franchise locations throughout the nation this year, which might make you start wondering how you can become a Human Bean Franchisee! Moving forward, the brand will stay true to the successful operations on which The Human Bean was founded. With exceptional products, attractive and efficient facilities and exceptionally trained and qualified teams, we deliver the very best experience possible to assure we remain the consumers’ brand of choice.

What makes The Human Bean different than nearly all other franchises is that we do not charge percentage-of-sales royalty or marketing fees. We earn revenues from bulk sales of coffee and other supplies. At The Human Bean, we work as a team with our franchisees to assure they have every tool necessary to operate successful drive-thus. Our goal is for Human Bean franchisees to enjoy the returns from their hard work and investment, while receiving the benefits of being part of a family of successful operators.

Plus we have superior high-quality coffee products that are obtained through our Farm Friendly Direct trade program which strives to make a positive difference through direct, socially responsible, coffee sourcing. Another New Location Opens in Lake Havasu, AZ – The Human Bean shows no Signs of Slowing Down!

Coffee consumption continues to grow, but this is not the black drip coffee of the past! One third of the population drinks a gourmet coffee or espresso beverage each day and drive-thru options only continue to grow in popularity due to our fast paced and on-the-go lifestyles. Although in a hurry, consumers are not willing to sacrifice quality for convenience which makes The Human Bean’s award winning Farm-Friendly Direct coffee and high quality products the perfect combination.
Headquartered in Oregon, The Human Bean has opened six new coffee franchises in the past six months in five different states (Missouri, Oregon, Idaho, Colorado & Arizona). The latest of which was the third location to open in the Lake Havasu area November, 14th. This location brought the total Human Bean count to 64.havasu-pic
Brian & Juls Baumkirchner, owners of all three Havasu locations, said they came into the role of Human Bean Franchisee when they took over the first location at 633 North Lake Havasu Avenue in 2007. The Baumkirchners saw the potential for this location to be the bustling coffee drive-thru destination that it is today. Their other two locations are on South McCulloch and now North Palo Verde on Highway 95. Between the three locations they are able to provide employment for 30 employees plus 1 handyman, 1 machine maintenance person and 1 bookkeeper.
Brain Baumkirchner said they chose this new location because many of their customers had constantly asked for it. “The North side of town doesn’t have very many business establishments for the residents and tourists alike. Additionally this location has higher traffic when compared to the two other locations.” Couple that with the fact that it has a double drive through and ample vehicle cueing; it is designed to provide the very best customer experience.
The Baumkirchners also have letters of intent for additional locations signed in nearby cities. Baumkirchner credits this growth to the brand supporting their franchisees and says, “The Human Bean Team has become like a family for us.” Human Bean co-founder, Dan Hawkins, states “Brian and Juls are phenomenal operators and it is a joy to get to work with them. They have a passion for creating the very best customer experience and the results are really something special!”
Baumkirchner sums it up nicely when he says, “It’s amazing to be a part of a quality brand and system that grew to 3 stores with proper management. Like I always tell people, ‘If the coffee wasn’t superior and service was sub-par, we wouldn’t exist!’”
The kind of growth Baumkirchner has experienced speaks for the brand as a whole and the Human Bean shows no signs of slowing down on growth with plans to open at least 19 more franchise locations by the end of 2017 throughout the US bringing the total to 82.human-bean-havasu-3

The Human Bean of Treasure Valley held a donation day benefiting a local and worthy children’s cause called the Jayden DeLuca Foundation, on Friday, June 24th. This year marked the 4th annual Jayden DeLuca Fundraiser and all five Human Bean locations in Treasure Valley participated by encouraging customer donations and donating 30% of their daily sales directly to the cause.

The donations raised by this event will support technological progress in the development of pediatric heart conditions. Thank you to all who supported the Jayden DeLuca Foundation by generously donating or purchasing a tasty beverage in Treasure Valley on June 24th.

guest barista

We are proud to recognize another Human Bean region in Northern Colorado who is giving back in big ways both locally and globally.

The Human Bean of Northern Colorado hosts many “Guest Barista Days” where members of the community join the baristas in the stands and interact directly with customers to promote their cause. In addition to encouraging customer donations, The Human Bean of Northern Colorado gives 10% of their daily sales to the guest barista. They hosted one of their very own managers as a Guest Barista in support of her recent trip to an orphanage in Haiti on Thursday, June 23, at their location in Evans, Colorado.

Read more about her eye-opening experience here: My Trip to Haiti…

The Human Bean of Northern Colorado encouraged customers to donate basic medical supplies that they would send to the orphanage in Haiti where their manager visited. A HUGE thank you to everyone who donated! Because of you, The Human Bean of Northern Colorado was able to provide a large donation of medial supplies to support children in Haiti.

THE HUMAN BEAN IS INVESTING IN NEW STANDS TO BETTER SERVE CUSTOMERS

The Human Bean team is hard at work renovating drive-thru locations in Jackson County to improve operations, visual curb appeal and better serve coffee lovers in the Rogue Valley!

The first location to receive a complete remodel is the original Human Bean that started it all back in 1998 in Ashland, Oregon. The Human Bean of Ashland paved the way for The Human Bean brand and established the products, operations and customer service we all know and love today.

The new Ashland location features a stone covered foundation, warm coffee & mocha colors and light fixtures decorated with The Human Bean’s steaming coffee cup icon. Next time you’re in the Ashland area, make sure to check-out the beautiful new building off Highway 99!

Let us know what you think of the changes on our Jackson County Facebook page. We’d love your feedback! Also, stay-tuned for the next complete remodel- The Human Bean off Biddle Rd. by Dairy Queen in Medford is next!

Innovation in Newberg, OR

photo 4 (2)

The Human Bean of Newberg received a warm welcome from the surrounding community after opening in April, 2014. Kimberly Jackson, Portland Regional Manager of The Human Bean said, “What a welcoming town Newberg has been!  Having customers say, ‘welcome to the neighborhood’ warms my heart every time”.

Newberg Oregon is located about 35 Miles Southwest of Portland, Oregon. It is surrounded by a beautiful greenbelt of rural forests and farmlands. The Willamette River creates a natural bowl around the community and the Chehalem Mountains provide a special backdrop for the 23,000 residents. The prestigious Gorge Fox University is just a block away from the Human Bean.

Order Station featuring Menu Board & Speaker Post

Unique from most of our double-sided Human Bean locations, Newberg features a single-sided drive thru where customers place their order at the order station rather than the window. This design was developed by The Human Bean corporate team after anticipating high demand for the Newberg corner location.  The new order station features a visual menu board, audio speaker post and headsets for the baristas. This effective ordering station allows The Human Bean to maintain the speed of our double-sided drive thru while giving us greater flexibility when choosing new corporate or franchised site locations.

Newberg Baristas Loving Their Headsets

Along with increasing efficiency and accuracy, the Newberg stand prioritized upholding The Human Bean’s exceptional customer service. Greeting customers using headsets rather than face-to-face interaction was unfamiliar, but our talented Newberg baristas quickly adapted and soon it became second nature. “Having a good time with customers at the order station makes it even more enjoyable for them when they pull up to the window and see a smiling face!” said Shelby.

The Human Bean of Newberg’s success has been a direct result of the hard working and enthusiastic people that make up our team and of the overwhelming support from the Newberg, Oregon community. We are excited to see the growth and future accomplishments our Newberg stand has approaching. Additionally, the success of Newberg represents exciting opportunities for The Human Bean brand both at the corporate level and through franchising. The innovative order station and single-sided drive thru design is proving to be a game changer for our brand development and we cannot wait to explore its potential.

Part Two- A New Year, A Healthier You!

Finding the perfect espresso combination can be tricky, but expanding your coffee knowledge makes all the difference. In part one of A New Year, A Healthier You!, we learned three basic guidelines to ordering a healthier drink: substitute your milk with a fat-free or dairy-free alternative, add a zero-calorie espresso shot when possible and replace your regular syrups with the sugar-free variety. For more details on these tips, check out part one. In this post, I’m putting those tips and tricks into action and sharing three tried-and-true delicious coffee beverages all under 200 calories!

As coffee lovers, we want a drink that flawlessly balances the Three C’s of Coffee
1. Craving– This C cannot be ignored when creating a desirable drink. We need a drink that tastes delicious, is full of flavor and satisfies our taste-buds with every sip.
2. Caffeine- It’s no secret that this C promotes productive mornings, keeps us alert and gives us that extra boost of energy throughout the day.
3. Calories- Keeping this C in mind leaves us feeling good and guilt-free long after drinking. The last thing we want is coffee-remorse.

With the tips from part one and the C’s of coffee in mind, I have crafted three easy-to-order    coffee options that are sure to please all taste palates and are all 200 calories or less!

Latte Paper Hero
Hot Coconut Almond Latte

Espresso topped with frothy almond milk and sugar-free coconut syrup.

iced chai
Iced Vanilla Chai Latte

Oregon Chai split with non-fat milk and a scoop of sugar-free vanilla syrup tossed over iced.
Top with nutmeg and cinnamon sprinkles for even more flavor!

low carb
Lo-carb White Chocolate Granita

Three shots of espresso, splash of half & half, vanilla Lo-carb powder and sugar-free white chocolate syrup blended to perfection.

You now possess three tried-and-true 16 ounce Human Bean coffees all under 200 calories and they are sure to satisfy the three C’s of coffee: craving, caffeine and calories. These ideas are a great start, but don’t hesitate to switch things up to uncover the perfect combination for you.

Already found a great combination? Share it!
