Oregon Restaurateur of the Year, Dave Thomason

The Oregon Restaurant and Lodging Association has recognized, Dave Thomason, as their 2018 Restaurateur of the Year.  According to the association this award is given to outstanding individuals in the hospitality industry who go above and beyond, raising the bar for excellence in performance, service and commitment to the industry.

Dave Thomason, along with his wife, Doneta, and daughter, Danae, of Thomason Bean Co, LLC own 5 Human Bean franchise locations; two in Roseburg and three in Grants Pass, Oregon.  They have successfully operated Human Bean drive thrus since 2013.  Additionally, Dave boasts an impressive multi-franchise portfolio.  His company, Thomason Hospitality Group, LLC oversees 44 operations with a total workforce of 600 employees.  In addition to the 5 Human Bean drive thru locations, Thomason also owns 10 Pita Pits, six Elmer’s restaurants, multiple Purple Parrot lottery/deli outlets and since May of 2009, the flagship of his restaurants has been the popular eatery, Taprock Northwest Grill in Grants Pass, Oregon.

Thomason got his start in the hospitality business in at 16, when he was working for a Carl’s Jr. chain in Anaheim, CA and decided to make a career in restaurants.  According to the Grants Pass Daily Courier, “By 1995 he owned close to 10 of those burger favorites around the region.”  And his portfolio continues to grow.  The Courier states, “Thomason continues to look for new locations, and plans a new Elmer’s in Eugene, in addition to more Human Beans in Grants Pass and Roseburg.”

The Human Bean’s commitment to developing the best drive-thru espresso led us to franchising The Human Bean’s brand and system in 2002. The Human Bean has now expanded to 80 locations in ten states. The Human Bean expects to continue this growth through approved franchisees and have plans to open several more locations in the near future.
