Summer Food Drive

Summer Food Drive in August at The Human Bean

We hosted a food drive all month long in August to re-stock local food pantries when they are often at their lowest supply.  For every $20 donation you gave we gave away a free 20 oz. drink coupon.  For every $10 donation we gave away a Buy One Get One Free drink coupon.  We also gave away our popular reusable bags on August 24th to anyone who gave a non-perishable food item donation or a cash donation to the food drive.  One bag per customer and two per car while supplies lasted and only at participating locations.

We have hosted our annual summer food drive every year now for nine years.  With the majority of food drives held during the winter months, food banks run lowest on food supplies during the summer.  The Human Bean believes that everyone deserves a nutritious meal, no matter what time of the year.  Each year The Human Bean food drive grows and raises more donations than previous years. This year in Jackson County alone we were able to give 836 pounds of food and $2,000 to Access Food Bank.  Access said they will be able to purchase 10,000 pounds of food with the $2,000!

Thanks to customer support, The Human Bean raises thousands of pounds of food to donate each year and we hope to make an even bigger difference this year.

Earth Day Celebration

Earth Day Celebration at The Human Bean will be held on Friday, April 20th, this year.  We celebrate Earth Day in April as well as all year long!  In the past we have given away reusable shopping bags for Earth Day.  These are always really popular with our customers and we love seeing people use them all year long!  This year several locations will be giving away a plantable coffee sleeve that contains both basil and parsley seeds.  We started doing an Earth Day Giveaway each year in 2011.

How the Human Bean Celebrates Earth Day Every Day

The Human Bean tries to extend their earth friendly practices globally as well as through their Farm Friendly Direct program.  This is their direct-trade coffee sourcing program.  They work directly with the farmers that grow their coffee.  Therefore they can pay them at or above market prices.  They also allocate additional funds for community projects such as: building water systems, school and community centers and facilitating earth friendly soil, water and farming practices.  You can learn more about The Human Bean and Farm Friendly Direct here!

Human Bean Celebrates Earth Day with Reusable Bag Giveaway

Human Bean Celebrates Earth Day every year with a reusable shopping bag giveaway.  Earth Day is on April, 22nd.  We will be showing customer appreciation by giving away reusable bags on Friday, April 21st and have been doing this since 2011.  We estimate that we have given away 90,000 of them and also plan to give away about 15,000 more this  year.

Why Use Reusable Shopping Bags?

A simple way to be kinder to our earth is to use reusable shopping bags. Many communities, including the city of Ashland locally, have banned the use of disposable plastic shopping bags.  This is due to the damage they can cause to our environment and wildlife. A plastic bag can take from 15-1,000 years to break down depending on environment.  Millions of birds, turtles and other sea animals die each year from ingesting the plastic waste that doesn’t make it into landfills. Reusable shopping bags can replace disposable plastic bags.  They are also made of recycled materials and typically have a lifespan equal to that of more than 700 plastic bags. When worn out, reusable bags can then be recycled. Additionally many stores now give discounts to customers that bring in their own shopping bags.  Plus they now come in many fashionable and cute shapes and prints, like ours!
